Can’t decide between a 3 or 4 rating. While my firewood is already cut and split, I have a small fireplace and often need to split the wood one more time. Thought this would really do the job and the first time I used it, it worked well with the exception of a couple of pieces that I needed to re-position due to knots. I liked the size I liked the size, portability and cost the best. What I did not know because I did not do enough research was the limitations of splitting hardwood. This 6 ton splitter will only split up to about a 6 inch piece of seasoned hardwood. The manual says you can split up to a ten inch diameter piece of wood. At 10 inches it would have to be softwood. Before buying a splitter you need to research tonage needed to split a specific type of wood. I am going to keep it because I don’t want to spend what…

Great purchase! I’ve split a lot of wood over the years. I’ve usually rented an industrial hydraulic splitter from Home Depot @ $100 per day. I had a (home) 2 day, 2 tree project and decided to buy this little unit for the same cost renting would have cost. This unit is awesome! Sure, it won’t split big knots or super hard green oversized rounds, but it worked great for me and I new the limitations in advance from reading the reviews. The instructions say 10″ max sized rounds, but I easily split 30″ +/-…
