How does a Briggs & Stratton Standby Generator system work?

Standby generator systems provide permanent protection from power outages. If your power goes out, your standby generator automatically turns on and restores power to your home within seconds.

What’s a Standby Generator?

When a power outage occurs, a standby generator system automatically provides power to your home until utility power is restored. It is permanently connected to your home’s electrical system “standing by” in case your electricity is interrupted It automatically provides backup power during an outage even if you’re not home at the time! A standby generator is powered by your natural gas (NG) or liquid propane (LP) supply. It’s that simple.

What’s an Automatic Transfer Switch?

Usually installed outside or right next to your circuit box, the transfer switch is the brain behind your standby generator system. Its job is to sense when your power is out, automatically “switch” on your generator, and manage backup power to your home. The switch from utility power to backup power occurs within seconds. Once utility power is restored, the switch will safely transfer back to utility power while returning the generator to standby mode.
