Easy replacement once you know how We bought this to replace the transmission on our MTD snow blower. These transmissions are known to have issues with the worm gear and need replaced every few years as it is poorly designed.Arrived in new condition but the manufacturer did an incredibly sloppy job of sealing it up, the rubber like sealant is literally dripping off of the shaft and all over the pully, however it did not impact it.Hubby watched a few videos and was able to replace it within an hour…

Replacement transmission for Craftsman/MTD snowblower was exact replacement for OEM part# 918-04296A. Installed in about 45 minutes, following U-tube videos. I was able to remove the locking couter pins and bearings from frame holding transmission shaft without removing 2 wheels from machine, saving some time. Roll pin holding drive gear (reused) on old transmission shaft best removed with 1/8″ dia. punch, then able to slide out old assembly. Snowblower now has 3 distinct speeds…
